I realised the other day that I have been working with Oracle products for more than 30 years. During this time, Oracle has morphed from essentially a great database company into a huge multi-dimensional company offering applications, middleware, database, and infrastructure. I remember when Oracle Financials were first released, and everyone said you should not use a relational database for an ERP because it would be too slow. Oracle proved those doubters wrong, and Oracle Applications have gone on to be implemented by thousands of organisations across the globe.

Now we have Oracle Cloud. A little late and behind the equivalent offerings from AWS, Google, and Azure but what a different cloud model! We found the first release of Oracle Cloud was not exactly easy to use, but the current version is incredible. Every product is available on a usage model which includes storage, computing, and software licenses at one price. To make things even more incredible, inbound data transfer is FREE, and there is a high threshold for outbound data transfer, FREE for the first 10Tb.  Maybe that’s why companies like Zoom have moved to the Oracle Cloud. Next time you are stung by huge egress fees, consider the Oracle model.
