In the world of software, successful implementation is only half of the equation to a successful project. Once requirements are met, design is solidified, and the solution is complete the organization must integrate with the new solution. This piece is crucial to the success of the project because a solution is only successful if users are able to understand and use the system. At TEAM IM, we understand that effective organizational change management (OCM) and comprehensive end user training are essential components of every project we undertake. Our approach has allowed our customers to navigate transitions smoothly and unlock the potential of their new system.
Organizational Change Management is typically defined as the preparation, support, and guidance of end users and teams through a transition from a previous system or process to the new solution. Not only do we want our solution to work from a technical perspective but the success of a project also relies on end users being able to embrace and easily use their new solution. Without proper change management and training, customers might not find the solution valuable because they don't understand how to use it or see the value the new solution and it's features have to offer.
One of the first pieces is understanding the users. How many users are there? Are they resistant to change? Are they aware of the new solution being implemented? These are all key questions our delivery team asks at the start of the project, during requirements gathering, to ensure we define our training plan based on the business users. Once we understand the users, we work with our customer point of contact to suggest communications, share updates on adoption timeline, and prepare end users to start using the system.
As the project progresses, users are then receiving proactive communications regarding when they will begin using the new system and how that transition impacts them. As the solution finalizes, TEAM IM then schedules time with our main point of contacts, or power users, to train them in on the solution, ask questions, and ensure the solution is fully adopted by the end users. By providing end user training, users are empowered to fully utilize the solution to it's fullest all while ensuring consistency of processes, reducing frustration or confusion, and enhancing long- term success.
