Blattner is the country’s leading renewable energy construction company, with headquarters in Avon, Minnesota. With more than 115 years of construction experience, the company has played a vital role in building America’s critical infrastructure, ranging from railroads and highways to dams and mines. Since 1997, Blattner has focused on renewable energy solutions and is responsible for some of the most significant solar, wind and storage projects in the U.S. Today, Blattner has installed more than 25% of America’s utility-scale wind, solar and energy storage capacity.

Project Details

In 2023, Blattner teamed up with a third party to develop a comprehensive technology strategy. Initially broad, the strategy quickly honed in on key areas: document management, contract management, construction management, data retention, content and data migration, workflow/review processing, and accounts payable invoicing. Recognizing Blattner's focus, TEAM IM identified their construction management solution, powered by the M-Files knowledge work automation platform, as a strong fit due to its robust features and flexibility.

Automating the contract management process emerged as a top priority, especially for corporate contracts and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). Blattner collaborated with TEAM IM to streamline and optimize their workflows.

Blattner needed a system that facilitated collaboration with external contract stakeholders, ensured secure internal collaboration on sensitive contracts, automated document distribution to the appropriate departments, integrated eSignature technology, and provided easy access to contracts and necessary information for users.

TEAM IM leveraged their deep understanding of M-Files’ metadata-driven functionality to design workflows and automated processes that met these requirements. Security was automatically assigned to contracts based on department, contract type, and security classifications. User access, both external and internal, was determined by the document’s classification. The integration of DocuSign added eSignature functionality for sending, signing, and receiving contracts.

Additionally, contract creation templates were established within M-Files, simplifying the process of drafting contracts.

The contract management project was a resounding success and Blattner and TEAM IM continue to collaborate on identifying opportunities to enhance document processing tasks in other departments.
